As of 23 October, DAppNode is now available in multi-architecture format. We’ve made our software fully compatible with ARM and AMD architecture, meaning that you can now run it on any computer or even on a Raspberry Pi!

As you might remember, we were awarded a grant by MolochDAO to create a Minimum Viable Validator (MVV) and dispel some of the common misconceptions that many people have about running a validator on budget hardware such as Raspberry Pi. A necessary step to do so was to make DAppNode run in a Raspberry Pi! In doing so, we are not only closer to the MVV, but we can start to break down some of the economic barriers to spinning up an Ethereum node by cutting the investment in hardware usually involved in this process. By getting DAppNode to operate on ARM hardware we can truly break down these barriers as ARM generally comes at a far more affordable price than the AMD devices typically used for nodes.

The fact that DAppNode can now run on far more affordable ARM hardware, paired with the user-friendly interface and tools that come with the software brings us one step closer to meeting the MVV target set in our Moloch grant. This will also make it possible for DAppNode to reach an even wider audience by making it more accessible both economically and in terms of its user-friendly interface.

Multi-service DNPs

But it doesn’t stop there. This release also has changed how DAppNode Packages (DNPs) can be structured, and they will now work as “Multi-Service”. These packages can run multiple docker containers within the same package, which is good news for “docker-compose” developers since it will make it far easier to work on complex DNPs with different services in the same container.

Own your own cloud with OwnCloud!

As a last little surprise, we’ve also brought out a package for OwnCloud. With this software you’ll be able to run your DAppNode as your own personal server to host your data, share files with other people and collaborate on projects from anywhere in the world!

Got a Raspberry Pi lying around somewhere collecting dust? You could easily put it to good use by testing out our software and spinning up an Ethereum node at home. All you have to do is download the ARM version of the DAppNode software and follow this installation tutorial to get it up and running! If you don’t want to go through the hassle of setting up a node on your own hardware, remember that you can always get hold of a DAppNode box from our store.

If you want to be the first to find out about any new DAppNode updates, follow us on Twitter or check out our blog. You can engage with our community on our Discord server or our forum. We’d also be really grateful if you gave us a gold star on GitHub!
